CWIN Children’s Programme – Easter Holiday Activities

For the Easter break we are working with Central and West Integration Network (CWIN) and artists Alaya Ang and Jonny Kirkwood to share fun and creative activities for children. Last week CWIN delivered 200 packs to children around Glasgow and over the next two weeks we are hosting a series of Zoom sessions for children to create the activities together. We thought it would be fun to also share these activities online as the activities use materials that can be found at home. Have a look at some of them below:

Community Engaged Creative Practices Talk Series – 2021 Edition

GSA Community Engagement and GSASA are pleased to announce that a further 3 talks have been programmed as part of our talk series around community engaged creative practices, kicking off with artist, DJ and curator, Sarra Wild, on the 14th of April at 4pm.

SARRA WILD, Wednesday 14th April, 4pm

Sarra Wild is an international DJ, artist and cultural curator. They run OH141, a creative network and platform that centres the experiences of working class LGBTQIA+  and Black and Brown folks within creative spaces. They are also co curator of Jupiter Artland’s Jupiter Rising Festival as well as co founding the Rising Residency with the aim of creating opportunities for emerging artists of all disciplines who historically have been underrepresented within Scottish Arts.

Garnetbank Virtual Art Club – March Sessions

Over the past few weeks we’ve been running a virtual art club with P6 and P7 pupils at Garnetbank Primary School. Artist Jonny Kirkwood has been running a session each Wednesday and Thursday, asking pupils to experiment with drawing, patterns and sculptures. Focusing on play and imagination, here’s some images of the fantastic work that’s been created so far:

The sessions are continuing over April and we’re excited to see some more exciting creations!

We have extended the deadline for our Open Call to 19th March! We have partnered with Central and West Integration Network and GSA Exhibitions to offer a short term project for GSA graduates.  The creative will develop a series of creative and collaborative workshops and/or activities with service users at Central and West Integration Network (CWIN) exploring themes of pattern and textiles. Inspired by textiles from the many different cultures of people they work with, the group wishes to develop their own patterns and fabric designs. Garnethill Community Council Monthly Virtual Quiz – 1st April

Garnetbank Virtual Art Club

We are working with Garnetbank Primary to run a series of virtual art clubs over the next few months with artist in residence Jonny Kirkwood. This week it was all about fast paced and silly drawing, check out their work here.

Garnethill Climate Group

The Garnethill Climate Group is planning on starting their hedgerow project and are looking for people to take part in the planting. The planting will follow Covid restrictions, so we will be grouping up to four people from two households and asking you to wear protective masks and gloves as well as cleaning the tools carefully between each session. If you would like to be involved and help with planting out, or know someone who would, please get in touch with FROGGS or myself. Also our next meeting is on 13th April at 12pm via Zoom, let us know if you’d like to join.

Last week we worked with Central and West Integration Network (CWIN) and artist Alaya Ang to share some creative activities for children over the February school holiday. We delivered 160 packs to families and hosted four Zoom sessions with children. The activities are based around creating calendars, one around drawing and one around emotions. We thought it would be fun to also share these activities online as the activities use materials that can be found at home, if you’d like to download the booklet please click here.

Garnethill Climate Group

The group is planning to continue monitoring the air quality in the neighbourhood over the next year and looking for groups and organisations to support through sponsorship and engagement. If you are interested in finding out more on how to get involved, contact the group via their Twitter or you can attend the next meeting on 9th March at 12pm via Zoom.

Glasgow Film Theatre is running their annual film festival online this year and you can watch an assortment of new and innovative films from all across the world, from the comfort of your sofa! Find out more about the programme and how to purchase tickets here.

CWIN Creative Project – Open Call for GSA Graduates

We are excited to announce we have partnered with Central and West Integration Network and GSA Exhibitions to offer a short term project for GSA graduates. The creative will develop a series of creative and collaborative workshops and/or activities with service users at Central and West Integration Network (CWIN) exploring themes of pattern and textiles. Inspired by textiles from the many different cultures of people they work with, the group wishes to develop their own patterns and fabric designs. 

The project will run from April to June 2021. With changes to Covid-19 restrictions being unknown, we want to ensure that this project can be adaptable and can be delivered if restrictions continue through the year. The creative will be supported to deliver the project either remotely or in-person, following current Covid-19 guidelines to ensure the safety of the participants, the creative and the CWIN team.

Scott Street Update

Due to snowfall over the last couple of days, the works on Scott Street have been delayed. The work site has also been extended meaning the full street is currently closed. We will be in touch with further updates as soon as possible and apologise for any inconvenience at this time. All changes to the works have been reported to Glasgow City Council.

Working with CWIN, we have delivered 160 activity packs out to families and we are hosting a series of Zoom sessions this week for children to create the activities together. We thought it would be fun to also share these activities online as the activities use materials that can be found at home. Alaya has created a great booklet with step by step instructions to create a drawing calendar or an emotions calendar.
